A Unique College & University Speaking Engagement
As a motivational speaker specializing in college and university settings, I bring a unique perspective on overcoming adversity and achieving personal transformation to your campus.
With firsthand experience of surviving childhood abuse, domestic violence in a near 18 year marriage to a USNA graduate, and sexual assault post divorce, I have turned my pain into purpose having been a certified counselor and now a volunteer victim advocate. I have been a strong example to my children who are successful in their now young adult lives.
My message of resilience and hope is especially relevant to college students who are navigating the challenges of independence, self-discovery, and academic achievement.
In addition to my advocacy work, I have also testified before legislative sessions to pass bills into law that empower victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. By sharing my personal story and expertise as a once certified counselor and current victim advocate, I provide valuable insights to lawmakers about the needs and challenges of survivors. Your students will learn how to do this by my example.
Through my advocacy efforts, I have helped shape policies that have improved the lives of countless individuals impacted by these issues. By highlighting my work in this area, I can demonstrate my commitment to making a positive impact on society and inspire your students to do the same.
My Story
Becky Rutrough has made it her life’s mission to inspire and empower people through the experiences she has endured during her near 18-year domestically abusive marriage to a United States Naval Academy graduate. Fueled by her relentless will to survive, Titanium symbolizes her strength and stability, and is a continuous reminder of how the power of self-defined will and determination can overcome obstacles. Becky survived and lived through all five elements of domestic abuse: Physical, Sexual, Emotional, Verbal, and Economic.
Following one brutal instance of the abuse, Becky vividly recalls teetering in and out of consciousness in the hallway of her home for over three hours, watching over her children while they slept to protect their innocence at any cost. It was amidst this chaos that she acknowledged her relentless will to be a survivor instead of a victim. While in that hallway she silently vowed to her children that she would change all their lives for the better.
After years of being haunted by an internal dialogue with her abuser’s voice, Becky transformed it into her own inner voice of strength. Despite enduring countless acts of abuse throughout her lifetime, Becky has chosen to devote her life to helping people around her by serving as a source of motivation and healing. In 2003, following the incidents that led to a Titanium spacer being placed between her L3 and L4 vertebrae, Becky embraced her will to survive, as a voice of inspiration to people of all ages. She became a volunteer victim advocate and a certified domestic violence and sexual assault counselor.
